Press Release + Bio

Tina Psoinos was born and raised in Athens, Greece. She has received a Bachelor in Fine Arts and continued her studies towards a Masters in Photography at Hunter College, NY, under the Master Photographer Roy DeCarava - National Medal of Arts 2006 - and other notable Artists of our times.

Photography was not always her dream but it instantly became a passion and a necessity. In college Photography was a prerequisite for Computer Graphics and for Tina it was also love at first sight. She continued taking photography classes and the darkroom became her new favorite place. She did not take Computer Graphics until going back to Hunter for her graduate studies.

In this current work, collages of photos are becoming the canvas for sketches and acrylic paint overlays along with newspapers and handwriting. It is the culmination of various experimental attempts in transcending light and color found mainly in Greece and the US, but also other countries such as Indonesia and Turkey. In some of the images the drawing is bridging the two images. In some others it blends in with the background. The work embodies the co-existence of contrasting forms of media, of animate with inanimate, and of distinctive attributes of culture, place and time, creating an environment that reflects the harmony of their discourse and speaks to our longing that we can all similarly connect disparate elements of our inner selves. During the last decade Tina has worked extensively with fine arts photographic expressions in the purest sense, consciously avoiding any commercial influence.

Tina has received recognition for her work and have participated in various exhibits around the world with a forthcoming participation in the 2010 MIART in Milan, Italy.

Tina lives in Manhattan with her three loves: her husband, accomplished interior designer Paris Kostopoulos, and her two children Peter & Danaye.
